The
Monster
Even PGA stars cringe when they approach the 18th hole of
the famous Blue Monster course during the Doral-Ryder
Open. It's been called one of the most challenging
finishing holes on the Tour. The combination of
near-perfection in landscaping and interesting golf
challenges at each turn has kept the par-72 Blue Monster
course among the top in the country for years.
Elsewhere on the Course
Doral offers a veritable rainbow of golfing choices. The
par-72 White Course plays 6,208 yards; the par-71 Red
Course offers 14 water holes; the par-70 Gold Course,
redesigned by Raymond Floyd, boasts narrow fairways and
water holes; and the par-71 Silver Course is famous for
its signature 14th hole. If that's not enough, there's a
nine-hole, par-3 Green Course. |

The
Skinny
In October 1998, Celine Dion's concert officially opened
the National Car Rental Center, but make no mistake about
it, this venue is first and foremost the home of the
Florida Panthers. Even the address says Panthers. The
$172-million arena, known by many as the NCRC, helped move
the Panthers from the NHL's smallest venue (the Miami
Arena at 14,703) to its newest (holding 19,452).
Getting to Know NCRC
It features extrawide concourses, 88 luxury suites, more
than 7,000 on-site parking spaces, three times the number
of required bathroom facilities, and six food courts. Two
of the food courts even offer westward views of the
magnificent sunsets in the Florida Everglades. Panthers
fans also enjoy the permanent 5,400-square-foot team
store. The arena hosts a number of events including NCAA
basketball (capacity 20,184), concerts (20,876), boxing
(20,763), and the circus (19,148). And its location on
I-75 makes it accessible to all in South Florida. |
