Cafe Iguana
A Top-40 teeny bopper dance party for the MTV spring break crowd.
17 S Fort Lauderdale Beach Blvd
Fort Lauderdale, FL 33316-1530
Phone (954) 763-7222
The Scene
What could you expect from a club located in a dining and retail complex such as Beach Place, besides youngsters and tourists? At Cafe Iguana, the large club located on the top floor of the mall, there are several bars and a dance floor on which you can boogie to the tunes of cheesy--and often raunchy--pop. MTV would kill to film one of the spring break orgies here. If you find yourself experiencing painful flashbacks to the days when you partied with a fake ID, look out the window and take comfort in the club's gorgeous ocean view.

The Draw
Besides the curious tourists and party hearty young 'uns searching for their own kind, there's also a cafe with typical the bar fare of salads, sandwiches and assorted appetizers.

Coliseum
A cavernous bi-level gay club reminiscent of both Rome and South Beach at their most decadent.
2520 S Miami Rd
Fort Lauderdale, FL 33316
Phone (954) 832-0100
The Scene
The Coliseum is command central for go-go boys, drag queens and shirtless dancers who have no desire to schlep down to South Beach. In fact, many SoBe-based circuit boys have been known to cross the county line for a taste of the Coliseum action.

The Skinny
On any given Friday or Saturday night, it's Caligula meets "Queer as Folk" here. Throngs of bare chested men flood the massive dance floor, which is flanked by bars and a balcony from which the voyeuristic set gleam and glare.

Copa
This Fort Lauderdale hot spot packs in cute, gay crowds every night of the week.
2800 S Federal Hwy
Fort Lauderdale, FL 33316-4021
Phone (954) 463-1507
The Scene
In the gay world, this could be considered the hottest spot north of Havana. It's been around forever (26 years) and still packs 'em in as if it were the grand opening. High energy, high spirits and a slew of diva-esque drag queens add much flavor to this palatial roadside disco. An outdoor video bar is fine if you want to have an audible conversation with someone, but the real action is inside. Disco, dance and house music prevail, though on certain nights there are campier tunes thanks to the dragsters who perform there.

The Crowd
It's very much a meat market. The crowd at Copa is definitely friendlier, albeit not quite as beautiful as those who frequent South Beach gay clubs. Young, old, Latin, Anglo, you name it, they're here to have a good time.

Dicey Riley's
This lively Irish bar and live music venue is the next best thing to a trip to Ireland.
217 SW 2nd St
Fort Lauderdale, FL 33301-1821
Phone (954) 522-2202
The Scene
Long before the area now known as Himarshee Village became trendy, Dicey Riley's established itself as one of Lauderdale's coolest Irish bars. It's authentic right down to some of the servers, with accents from greener pastures. And while the music, too, is quintessentially Irish, it's not all "Lord of the Dance." Celtic music in its traditional form can be heard here, but thanks to the house band and the DJ, it's everything from the Coors to Dire Straits. Draft beer, of course, is a specialty of the house--a pint of Guinness, anyone?

The Crowd
Very friendly, mostly singles in their 20s and 30s who have adopted this as their downtown hangout. Because there is live music at least six nights a week, groupies and lovers of all things Irish would probably rather move a cot in here than leave.
